Starting Photography on a Budget in 2024, This is What I’d Buy.

Are you interested in getting into photography but don’t want to break the bank on expensive equipment? With the advancements in technology, it’s easier than ever to start photography on a budget in 2024. There are plenty of affordable options for cameras, lenses, and accessories that can help you get started on your photography journey without draining your bank account. In this blog post, I will share my recommendations for what to buy when starting photography on a budget in 2024. Whether you’re a beginner or just looking to upgrade your current gear, these affordable options will help you capture stunning images without breaking the bank.

…the difference in quality between different lenses is huge compared to the differences between camera bodies. So, with that being said, our next purchase is going to be a lens. And if I had to recommend just one lens to someone starting out in photography, it would be the Sony 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6. This lens is incredibly versatile and covers a wide range of focal lengths, making it perfect for capturing a variety of different subjects and scenes. It also has optical image stabilization, which is great for shooting in low light conditions or when shooting handheld. It’s a great all-around lens that will allow you to experiment with different focal lengths and really get a feel for what type of photography you enjoy.

Next up, we have our second lens, which is the Sony 50mm f/1.8. This lens is a prime lens, which means it has a fixed focal length, but what it lacks in versatility, it makes up for in image quality. The 50mm focal length is great for portraits and low-light photography, and the fast f/1.8 aperture allows for beautiful bokeh and excellent low-light performance. It’s a great addition to any camera bag and will allow you to experiment with different types of photography and really expand your creative horizons.

Moving on to accessories, the next item on our list is a good quality wrist strap. This is essential for keeping your camera secure and accessible while you’re out shooting. The Peak Design Cuff is a great option, as it’s durable, comfortable, and allows for quick and easy access to your camera. It’s a small investment that can make a big difference in your shooting experience.

We also need to make sure we have a memory card, as well as a spare battery. The Sony a6000 uses SD memory cards, and I would recommend the SanDisk Extreme Pro series for fast read and write speeds. As for the spare battery, the Wasabi Power NP-FW50 kit is a great option, as it includes two batteries and a charger for a very reasonable price.

Finally, we need a good camera bag to carry all of our gear. The Lowepro Slingshot Edge 150 is a great option, as it’s compact, lightweight, and allows for quick and easy access to your camera and lenses. It also has plenty of room for all of our gear and is designed for comfort and convenience.

So, with all of these items added to our list, let’s take a look at the grand total. The Sony a6000 came in at £234, the 16-50mm lens at £120, the 50mm lens at £149, the Peak Design Cuff at £29, the SanDisk memory card at £24, the Wasabi Power battery kit at £25, and the Lowepro camera bag at £49. Adding all of these items together, we come to a grand total of £630, which is well under our budget of £1,000.

In conclusion, I believe that this setup provides a great foundation for someone just starting out in photography. It covers all of the essential gear that you need to get started, and it allows for plenty of room for growth and experimentation as you continue to develop your skills and expand your creative horizons. I hope that this article has been helpful for anyone looking to start their photography journey on a budget in 2024, and I wish you the best of luck as you embark on this exciting new adventure.
