Canon R5 II & R1: We’ve got some BAD news to talk about !

Yesterday Canon rumors said that the Canon EOS R5 Mark II will be announced ahead of the Canon EOS R1 in the next couple of months. I would think that puts us around April, which sounds great, right? But since then, the date has moved once again. The dates moved for the Canon EOS R5 Mark I and the dates moved for the Canon EOS R1 and it’s going to be much later than any of us had hoped.

What’s the news?

So when are we getting the announcement for the Canon EOS R5 Mark II and the Canon EOS R1 and when will they go on sale? Well, you’re not going to like this. The date for the Canon EOS R5 Mark II announcement has been moved to the end of April or early May, and they’ll be available to photographers at Euro 2024 in June and the Summer Olympics in July.

What does this mean for photographers?

This means that the cameras likely won’t go on sale until after these events, putting us into late Q3 or Q4 of this year. This is a little bit disappointing, and we don’t even have any specs to lift our spirits, which is a bit devastating.

Why are the rumors constantly changing?

Rumors for Canon products such as the R5 Mark II and the R1 and lenses seem to be constantly up in the air and constantly changing. This has not been seen before, and it leads to frustration for both photographers and consumers.

What’s next for Canon?

It looks like Canon’s going to have a few non-EOS related announcements at CP + 2024, but unfortunately, Canon rumors can’t elaborate on the announcements.

However, there is a slight bit of light at the end of the tunnel. There are a few camera registrations that we did get several weeks back. This could mean that new cameras might be announced at CP + and we may also get some new lenses, which would be a welcome addition given the delay for the R5 Mark II and the R1.

This news is definitely disappointing, but we can only hope that Canon will make some pleasant surprises in the coming months. In the meantime, it’s a waiting game for photographers and consumers alike.
