WOW! Sigma 18-35 1.8 [Sony E-Mount w/ MC-11 Adapter] Review

Introduction

Today we are talking about one of the most popular and most talked-about Lenses for aps-c cameras – the Sigma 18 to 35 F 1.8 art lens. Sigma sent me this lens to try out for a little while, along with the MC 11 adapter that allows me to use it on my Sony a 65 hundred.

Build Quality

This lens feels like it could take a beating and has a nice rubber grip on the zoom and focus rings. The lens is quite hefty and when including the MC 11 adapter it weighs 930 grams. The zoom happens internally, making it suitable for gimble and Steadicam work. The focus ring has a nice resistance to it, and there’s an indicator on top of the lens that tells you how far out you’re focusing.

Autofocus

Adapted lenses don’t usually do very well with autofocus, and the MC 11 adapter is no exception. The autofocus was okay, but not as fast as native Sony lenses. Face detect and eye autofocus still work with the lens adapter combo, but there is a constant clicking noise from the autofocus.

Image Quality

Where this lens excels is in the image quality. The sharpness corner-to-corner is incredible, with amazing skin tones, color, and contrast. The overall quality of the images obtained from this lens is impressive.
