Why EVERY Photographer Should be Using Lightroom!

Why EVERY Photographer Should be Using Lightroom!

What’s up, everybody. Peter McKinnon here, and today we’re talking about why every photographer should be using Lightroom. We’re gonna go through some tips and tricks and techniques so that, by the end of this video, hopefully you’ll be Just a straight savage with that camera using Lightroom. Alright; roll that intro, whoo!

Benefits of Lightroom

Alright, everybody, welcome back to another Peter McKinnon tutorial. It’s an incredibly powerful tool and the more time that goes by, the more I find myself using it and the more I discover about it. I just thought to myself, “My audience needs to know how much I like this, and I want them to like it just as much.” Lightroom handles the organization and storage of files as well as the editing, and it allows for easy access to your entire photo library. You can catalog and store your images while editing them at the same time. The beauty of Lightroom is that you can always go back to your photos and continue to edit them since they’re stored raw. This means there’s no save button, and you don’t have to hit Save As or Save As New Version.

Using Lightroom with Photoshop

Now, the one question I do get asked a lot is, “What’s the difference between Photoshop and Lightroom?” Both of them do a lot of the same things, but also completely different things. Lightroom handles the organization and storage of files as well as the editing, where Photoshop doesn’t. The nice thing about Lightroom is you can always go back to those photos and continue to edit them and there’s no save button. That’s the beauty of Lightroom. Photoshop, on the other hand, offers more freedom for manipulation of images. This includes general editing and more extensive modifications like combining different elements from multiple photos.

Editing Photos in Lightroom

Importing and Organizing

Once you’ve imported your photos, they come into the Library section where you can go through the thumbnails and star them for future editing. When you’re ready to get editing, click on the Develop tab. This is where you’ll find all the tools and brushes necessary for manipulating a photo.

Basic Editing Panel

One of the first things to do in Lightroom is to adjust the white balance, exposure, and correct any horizons. You can use the clarity tool to sharpen up your images, but be wary of overusing it as it can take away color and make your photos look unnatural. The basic panel in Lightroom allows you to adjust various elements such as highlights, shadows, whites, and blacks to create the perfect balance in your images.

That’s your basic panel in Lightroom. You guys can play with that; it’s pretty straightforward. Lightroom is an essential tool for any photographer looking to improve their images and workflow. If you’re serious about photography, it’s worth investing in Lightroom to take your skills to the next level.
