What’s In My Camera Bag 2023 (Everyday Carry)
It’s been a little while since we last discussed what’s in my camera bag, with the last update being in 2020. But now, in 2023, I have some exciting new additions to share with you. These updates to my camera bag setup have made my workflow more streamlined and efficient, and I hope they can inspire you as well.
The Everyday Backpack by Peak Design
Let’s start with the bag itself, which hasn’t changed at all. I still use the Everyday Backpack by Peak Design, but now in the 20-liter version, the smaller black variant. I absolutely love this bag because I’m always on the move, and its portability and flexibility suit my fast-paced shooting style perfectly. Whether I’m running, swinging the bag around, or constantly on the go, this bag provides me with the speed and convenience I need.
Main Camera Setup
Now let’s dive into the contents of the bag. In the middle compartment, I have my go-to camera setup. This setup is my all-in-one solution for any shooting situation. It consists of the Sony a7r Mark 5 paired with the new 24-70 G Master 2 lens. This combination has been a game-changer for me, as it offers exceptional image quality and versatility. Whether I’m shooting portraits, landscapes, street photography, or architecture, this setup never disappoints. The lens is a bit big and heavy, but the image quality it delivers is worth the trade-off.
The a7r Mark 5 is one of my favorite hybrid cameras, offering stunning image quality with its 61-megapixel sensor. In addition to its impressive photo capabilities, it now also shoots 4K 60fps video, making it a well-rounded choice for my photography and videography needs. With features like 8 stops of image stabilization and a reliable autofocus system, this camera setup has become my go-to for almost every job.
Secondary Camera Setup
Alongside my main camera setup, I always carry a second camera in my bag. Recently, I’ve been using the Sony ZV-E1 as my secondary camera body, paired with the lightweight and compact 16-35 power zoom lens. The ZV-E1 is a versatile and portable video camera with impressive low-light performance, thanks to its 12-megapixel sensor shared with the A7S III. It also offers 4K 120fps video capabilities, making it a fantastic tool for vlogging and run-and-gun shooting.
While the ZV-E1 excels in video, it’s also capable of capturing still images when needed. However, for most photography purposes, I find myself reaching for the main camera setup instead. The ZV-E1 serves as a reliable and convenient second camera option to complement my primary setup.
Additional Lenses
Occasionally, I carry three additional lenses in the top pocket of my bag, depending on the specific project or shooting style. These lenses include the 35mm G Master f/1.4, a compact and versatile lens, and the 85mm G Master f/1.4, ideal for portrait photography. I also use the 85mm f/1.4 for street photography, as it provides a unique look and feel to my images.
These lenses offer me versatility and creative options for different situations. I switch them out based on the specific requirements of each project or location.
In conclusion, my camera bag setup for 2023 remains focused on flexibility, portability, and high-quality imaging. The main camera setup of the Sony a7r Mark 5 with the 24-70 G Master 2 lens has proven to be an unbeatable combination for all my photography and videography needs. The purpose of my wide-angle prime lens, the Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM, is to capture stunning landscapes, architecture, and street photography. The wide field of view allows me to portray a broader perspective and create visually captivating images.

A telephoto zoom lens, like the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS, is essential for capturing distant subjects, wildlife, and sports events. It enables me to get closer to the action and isolate specific details, resulting in impactful and dynamic photographs.
6. Do you carry any additional accessories in your camera bag?
Absolutely! My camera bag also contains extra camera batteries, memory cards, lens filters, a sturdy tripod, lens cleaning kit, and a remote shutter release. These accessories enhance my shooting experience and ensure I’m always prepared for different challenges I may encounter.
7. How do you protect your camera gear?
I protect my camera gear by using padded dividers within my camera bag to keep each item secure and prevent them from bumping into each other. Additionally, I always have a weather-resistant camera backpack to shield my gear from rain, dust, and other environmental elements.

Aside from camera gear, I also carry a small notebook and pen to jot down ideas, location details, or any important notes during my photography outings. It helps me stay organized and remember crucial details for later post-processing or sharing my work.
