What Would You Do If Porsche Lent You A $146,000 Fully Electric Car To Take Photos Of?

This was one of those trips that got thrown together really last minute. Matt commented, “You look nervous.” And indeed, I was nervous because so many things could go wrong. I had no plan coming out here, and to top it all off, I had never really shot any car photos or videos before. So, I didn’t really know what I was doing. I was kind of just making it up as I went along.

Experience with the Porsche Taycan

Something a little strange happened as Porsche reached out to me to borrow a $146,000 fully electric car to take photos of. The car was beyond just a vehicle; it was fully electric, which meant I had to get used to figuring out charging stations and other aspects. My plan was to drive down to Banff to meet my friend, Matt Littlewood, and take some photos of the car in the mountains. However, the weather forecast was not in our favor as it was supposed to rain all day in both Edmonton and Banff.

Features of the Porsche Taycan

The Porsche Taycan had impressive features that blew my mind. From the three main screens to the different drive modes and assistance systems, the car was more than just a mode of transportation. Some standout features included heated and cooled seats, automatic temperature control, and adaptive cruise control, making the driving experience a whole new level of comfort and luxury.

Photo Shoot and Experience in Banff

Despite the weather challenges and running out of light on the first day of photoshoot, I managed to capture some amazing shots of the car against the beautiful backdrop of Banff. The rainy and misty conditions actually added a unique and moody vibe to the photos, making them stand out. The early morning wash of the car and subsequent shoot also proved to be successful, showcasing the versatility of the Porsche Taycan.

Challenges with Charging

However, we faced challenges with the charging situation in the area, especially when planning to head up the Icefields Parkway between Banff and Jasper. The lack of advanced charging infrastructure made it stressful to find fast chargers along our route. Planning our charging stops became crucial to ensure we didn’t run out of battery and end up stuck on the side of the road.

Despite the challenges and uncertainties, the experience of borrowing and shooting the Porsche Taycan was both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. Learning to navigate the electric vehicle and making the best of the weather conditions added an element of adventure to the entire photoshoot. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that pushed me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to capture stunning images of a remarkable car in equally remarkable surroundings.
