Introduction

This is Jaren Schneider and I’m joined by my friends Jordan Drake and Chris Nichols who have had one heck of an early start to this week because there was a lot that was announced and it’s all from Sony. That’s basically what we’re going to be talking about today.

Today we’ll be discussing the new Sony cameras and lenses that were recently launched. We’ll share our thoughts on the A7c2 and the r as well as the 16-30 PM and 1635 lenses. We’ll also touch on other cool stories from the past week such as the popularity of the Ricoh gr3 and Canon’s weird new lens patent.

Sony’s Camera Lineup

First, let’s talk about the new Sony cameras and lenses. The A7c2 and the r have received positive feedback from our team. The A7c2 is a great option for travel and landscape photography, while the r offers exceptional image quality. However, some users have pointed out a few issues with these cameras.

It’s worth mentioning that Sony seems to be expanding their camera lineup beyond the entry-level segment. The 16-30 PM lens received high praise for its optical quality, although it does have some limitations. Overall, it’s clear that Sony is pushing boundaries with their new releases.

The Popularity of the Ricoh gr3

Next, let’s discuss the surprising popularity of the Ricoh gr3. Despite being announced four years ago, this camera is in high demand, especially in Japan and other Asian countries. It seems that the compact size and fixed prime lens of the gr3 are attracting photographers who prefer a smaller, more portable option.

This popularity might be related to the success of the Fuji X100 series and the growing interest in film point-and-shoot cameras. Other compact cameras with fixed lenses, such as the Fujifilm x70, are also gaining popularity in the used market. It’s clear that there is a demand for these types of cameras.

Canon’s Weird Lens Patent

Lastly, let’s talk about Canon’s strange new lens patent. The details of this patent are quite unusual, and it has generated some buzz in the photography community. It’s unclear how practical or popular this lens design would be, but it’s definitely an interesting addition to Canon’s lineup.

In conclusion, Sony’s recent camera releases, the popularity of the Ricoh gr3, and Canon’s unique lens patent are all topics that have caught our attention. It’s clear that the photography industry is constantly evolving, and we’re excited to see what other innovations are on the horizon.

That’s all for today’s episode of the petapixel podcast. We hope you enjoyed our discussion on these exciting news stories. Stay tuned for more updates in the world of photography!
