What the HECK Do All Those Weird Camera Terms Mean?! | The PetaPixel Podcast

Welcome back everyone to the PetaPixel podcast! I’m Chris Nichols and I’m joined by Jordan Drake and Jaren Schneider. Today we’re going to be covering some very interesting stories. What doesn’t come with the Sony a6700? You might be surprised. If you’ve got yourself a Nikon Z8, you might not want to tug too hard on those lugs. And we’ve talked about this before – the Adobe knockoff of Bodhi: is it satirical art or is it a real attempt to make an alternate version of software for the users? We’re going to talk about that further. We’ve also got “Never read the comments.” Let’s get to our podcast. Thank you and this week our podcast is brought to you by OM System. Is your camera gear old? Is it heavy? Not weather sealed? Are you looking to take your photography to the next level? Feeling the need for an upgrade? OM System is happy to introduce an exclusive trade-in, trade-up promotion. Trade in any qualified interchangeable lens camera for credit towards an exciting camera upgrade. You can unlock even more savings on the incredible OM1 camera body or the OM1 with the 12-40 F2.8 Pro lens. Not only do you get a $200 instant rebate, but OM System is sweetening the deal with an additional trade-in bonus valued at $200. That’s double the savings!

The Incredible OM System Trade-In Promotion

So, I ran some numbers on this because it varies depending on what camera you’re trading in. I ran three cameras that I haven’t used in a while: a GH5s, a GH5, and a Sony A7 II. All in excellent condition. The GH5s is worth about $393 for the trade-in, the A7 II is worth about $294, and the GH5s is worth $536. If you were to trade in the GH5s, that’s like $900 towards the new OM camera. What a great deal!

Why OM System’s Trade-In Program Stands Out

When we were at the camera store, there were lots of trade-in programs where the companies would do this, but they would just give you a flat rebate. This is actually really nice that OM System is giving you credit for your actual camera gear as well as these additional instant rebates. This makes a lot of sense for somebody who doesn’t want to go through the trouble of selling privately or meeting people in shady parking lots.

If you’re interested in this incredible offer, the bonus savings coupons are only available until October 1st. So, act sooner rather than later to upgrade your camera gear and elevate your photography. Visit explore.omsystem.com/petapixel for more details and to kickstart your camera system journey today. Thanks again to OM System for sponsoring this episode!

A Controversial News Story: Sony a6700 Doesn’t Ship with Charger

Now, let’s talk about a little controversial story that has been making the rounds. The Sony a6700 is the first camera they’re releasing that doesn’t come with any sort of charger. It charges via the USB port, but it doesn’t come with the cables, brick, or wall charger. This has sparked a lot of debate. Some see it as a cost-cutting move while others feel it’s inconvenient for the consumer. What do you think?

Final Thoughts

These stories have definitely stirred up some emotions in the photography community. What do you make of these developments? Are you planning to take advantage of the OM System trade-in promotion? Do you think Sony’s decision to exclude a charger with the a6700 is a step in the right direction or a misstep? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Remember, keep it civil!

What is ISO?

ISO measures the sensitivity of your camera’s sensor to light. A higher ISO means your camera can capture images in low light but may introduce noise.

What is Aperture?

Aperture refers to the size of the opening in the lens that allows light to enter the camera. It is measured in f-stops, with a lower f-stop value allowing more light to enter the camera.

What is Shutter Speed?

Shutter speed determines how long the camera’s shutter remains open to allow light to hit the sensor. A faster shutter speed freezes motion, while a slower shutter speed can create motion blur.

What is Depth of Field?

Depth of field refers to the range of distance in a photograph that appears in focus. A shallow depth of field means only a small portion of the image is in focus, while a deep depth of field means more of the image is in focus.
