Priced at around $125, this lens is a steal for photographers looking to expand their lens collection without breaking the bank. In this review, we’ll take a closer look at the TTArtisan AF 35mm F1.8 STM and see if it lives up to its reputation as the new bargain normal lens. From its build quality to its performance, we’ll cover all aspects of this lens to help you decide if it’s the right choice for you.

TTArtisan AF 35mm F1.8 STM Review

Hi, I’m Dustin Abbott, and today I’m here to give you my video review of the new TTArtisan autofocusing 35mm f1.8 lens. This is their first autofocus lens with a larger aperture and is available for Fuji X Mount, Sony E Mount, and Nikon Z mounts at a price point of roughly $125.

Build and Design

The lens is compact, measuring 65mm in diameter and 60mm in length, with a 52mm front filter thread and weighs only 200g. The all-metal construction features an anodized black metal finish with an ergonomic design for easy handling. The lens has a ribbed manual focus ring and nine aperture blades for a circular aperture shape.

The lens lacks an aperture ring, as the aperture is electronically controlled from the camera. It also has no switches and relies on the camera for functions such as autofocus and manual focus settings. The rear lens cap features electronic pins and a USB-C port for firmware updates, a thoughtful addition to the lens.

Performance and Autofocus

The lens has a minimum focus distance of 60cm, limiting close-up shots and macro capabilities. However, the autofocus motor is fairly quiet and provides good accuracy for both stills and video. The autofocus speed is average, with a slight pause before a focus change, but it performs well in various lighting conditions. The lens delivers good precision and accuracy for both inanimate objects and subjects such as people and animals.

Conclusion

Despite some limitations, such as the odd-shaped lens hood and the minimum focus distance, the TTArtisan AF 35mm F1.8 STM offers a lot of value for its price. The build quality, compact design, and autofocusing capabilities make it a compelling option for budget-conscious photographers. Whether you’re a professional or an enthusiast, this lens provides a cost-effective solution for everyday photography needs.

If you’re looking for a versatile and affordable lens, the TTArtisan AF 35mm F1.8 STM is definitely worth considering. Its performance and build quality make it a strong contender in the entry-level lens market.
