Vu of envo films is back with another video, and I don’t even know if this subject necessarily needs its own video, but it’s just something I’d like to address because it’s been all over my video comments for the Sony zve1. I’ve noticed a lot of YouTube videos talking about it. It’s about the Panasonic S5 Mark II X, and it is getting a lot of hype.
The Hype and Misconceptions
The Panasonic S5 Mark II X is relatively cheap at $2200, offering a very capable camera with all the specs you’ve probably heard about. There are people claiming that Sony is trash and they need to sell their Sony gear to switch to Panasonic because the S5 Mark II X obliterates the Sony a7s3 and fx3. However, this is complete nonsense. Firstly, to unleash the full potential of the Panasonic S5 Mark II X, you have to buy additional gear such as ssds, a cage, a monitor, and more, which will increase the overall cost. So, you’re likely to spend much more than the initial $2200.
Limitations of the Panasonic S5 Mark II X
Secondly, even with the additional gear, the Panasonic S5 Mark II X still cannot do everything that the Sony a7s3 and fx3 can do. It lacks certain capabilities, such as the ability to shoot 4K 60 using the full frame of the sensor, and it has significant rolling shutter issues. The rolling shutter problem can make footage unusable, especially when panning with a telephoto lens. On the other hand, the Sony a7s3 and fx3 do not have this issue, making them more suitable for filming sports or fast-action scenes.
