Sony Alpha Rumors Gets it Right…Again
Looks like Sony Alpha rumors got another one right. Sony just scheduled an event for August 29th at 10 A.M Toronto in New York time or 2300 hours Japanese local time. And as Sony Alpha rumors has been saying for the past several weeks, we’re going to get two successors to the Sony a7c: the A7c2 and the a7cr, as well as a 16 to 35 millimeter lens. So it’s going to be a rather interesting day.
I’m going to be doing a livestream. We’re going to start one hour before Sony’s announcement and we’re going to talk about the latest leaked specs, the latest leaked images. And we’re going to ask our special guests what they would do if they were Sony.
High-Level Specifications
Let’s talk about some of the high-level specifications of each of these cameras. The Sony a7c2 is basically modeled off of the Sony a74 with a 33 megapixel sensor and video up to 60 frames per second in 4k. It’s most likely going to have AI processing. It’s supposed to have a micro HDMI port and a single card slot. However, the pricing of 2399 USD doesn’t quite align with some of the specs.
Now, let’s talk about the a7cr. It was initially rumored to be a mini Sony a7r5 and was expected to have similar capabilities, including a 61 megapixel backside illuminated full-frame sensor. However, it won’t have 8K 24 and 25 frames per second like the Sony a7r5. It’s also supposed to have a single SD card slot. With a price point of 3699 Euros, it’s priced lower than the a7r5 but has some limitations.
Conflicting Specs and Pricing
While we have confirmation of the announcement date and time, the specs and pricing of these cameras don’t necessarily line up. Sony is typically strategic about where they place their cameras and their capabilities. So, the current pricing information may not be entirely accurate. It’s possible that the leaked specifications are around 80% correct, but we can’t assume they are 100% correct.
It’s interesting to note that the a7c2 is priced only a few hundred dollars less than the Sony a74, which has dual card slots and the same sensor and image processor. Similarly, the a7cr, priced at 3699 Euros, doesn’t have 8K capabilities and only has a single SD card slot. These pricing and specification discrepancies are a bit of a letdown.

Lastly, we’re also getting an announcement for the Sony 16 to 35 millimeter F 2.8 gm2 lens, which is said to be more compact than its predecessor. Although pre-orders cannot be placed until after the announcement on August 29th, these links will save you time by showing you all available options when you’re ready to make a purchase.
