Sony A7CII Review for Portrait Photography and Video

Hey everyone, this is the Sony a7c2 and in today’s video, we’re going to be doing a portrait photo shoot and a bunch of other tests to review this camera for both photo and video.

The Sony a7c2 is a full-frame hybrid mirrorless camera with a 33-megapixel back-illuminated sensor. It features the same AI autofocus technology as the Sony a7r5, a6700, and a7cr.

Autofocus Performance

I have some human and animal autofocus examples to showcase the camera’s performance. The a7c2 has 759 phase detection AF points, which is the same as the Sony A7 IV. The autofocus on this camera is incredibly responsive and does a great job of following moving subjects. The locked-on autofocus feature also keeps focus on the subject even when obstacles come in between.

Portrait Photography

I took some portrait shots using the GM 135mm F 1.8 lens. The images came out dreamy and the autofocus performed exceptionally well, especially when capturing sharp focus on the subject’s iris.

Video Performance

The animal autofocus feature in video mode makes it super easy to track moving subjects, even with a shallow depth of field. The a7c2 offers different AF modes for human, animal, bird, insect, car, train, and airplane, allowing you to select which part of the subject you want in focus.

Photo Shoot Experience

During the photo shoot, the autofocus made the process quick and easy. The a7c2 produces high-quality images similar to Sony’s pro cameras like the A7 R5 and a7 IV. However, it does have some limitations, such as a maximum mechanical shutter speed of 1/4000, which can be an issue for wide-open prime lens photographers. Additionally, the camera’s buffer performance was impressive, allowing for smooth continuous shooting without slowing down.

Ergonomics and Size

The Sony a7c2 weighs 514 grams and features a slightly larger grip compared to its predecessor, the a7c. This makes it more comfortable to hold and carry around as an everyday camera.

In conclusion, the Sony a7c2 is a versatile camera that excels in portrait photography and video shooting. It offers impressive autofocus performance, high-quality images, and a compact and ergonomic design. While it has some limitations, overall, it is a great choice for photographers and videographers looking for a capable mirrorless camera.
