Sony A6700 Review – Worthy A6500 Successor [ APS-C E-mount ]

Hello my friends, in today’s video we will take a look at Sony a6700. Sony’s APS-C mount has been one of the most popular DSLM systems ever since it was introduced, but it didn’t always get as much attention as it deserves. I think that the first peak period of APS-C Mount was in 2017 when the a6500 was released.

Build Quality and Size

The Sony a6700 is 12.2 cm wide and it weighs 493g including battery and SD card. The build quality is on par with Sony’s full-frame cameras which means that it is on a very good level. It feels very solid and the weather sealing should be pretty solid on the a6700. The ports on the side of the camera are nicely sealed but I have managed not to test that with this review unit.

Sensor and Image Quality

The a6700 uses a 26 megapixel backside illuminated APS-C sensor, possibly IMX 571 or some evolution of it. The ISO performance is very similar to other APS-C BSI cameras. The dynamic range is sufficient even for challenging conditions such as sunsets.

Autofocus and Video

The autofocusing is exactly what you would expect from Sony in 2023. It uses the latest autofocus system with 759 phase detection points and 425 contrast detection points. It can shoot 4K fully down sampled from about 6.2K up to 60 frames per second with no crop. The video quality in terms of detail is great as expected from fully down sampled video. It can also shoot 4K UHD video in 10bit 422 using all intra or long GOP encoding.

Image Stabilization

The INB image stabilization in the a6700 is rated for 5 and a half stops. The handling is generally very good.

Overall, the Sony a6700 is a worthy successor to the a6500, offering great build quality, sensor quality, autofocus, and impressive video capabilities. It is definitely worth considering for both photography and videography enthusiasts.
