Hey everybody I’m Hugh Brown for three blind men and an elevate and I am in a new secret location it’s not so secret with Shaun Robinson here to talk about the Panasonic s1h now we’ve gone hands-on for about an hour and you know me I’m terribly slow about these things I need a lot of time to understand what it is that I’m looking at which is why you’re on again yeah would you please take us through the s1h and how it is very different and yet very similar not only to the s1 series but to the camera That Claudia will not let go of the g9 yeah so so the the H kind of rounds out that you know three act play that we’re having with the S series we have the hybrid the photography oriented one and then now we have our cinema oriented one And I use that word very specifically cinema oriented because there’s a lot in this camera that is very well-known in the cinema crowd that differentiates it from the photography or the hybrid or you know YouTube content creation world things like iris and shutter angle just okay yeah shutter angle iris the fact That it’s a fan cooled system that’s not something that you see in a you know you know consumer dsl m style camera but knowing Panasonic and knowing our heritage we carry a lot of things that we’ve tested that to you know to become tried-and-true things like from the g9 The ergonomic the general ergonomics the top plate LCD the general feel and control of the dials which is thank you systems thing yeah so a lot of this has been carried over and just kind of built upon for the cinema crowd in this case you know super simple things like Everyone you don’t really miss the screen that does this oh it’s back but then also like finding a way to improve it because this is great it’s cool to have this and it’s cool to just kind of slap a very angle screen on it but instead we also looked at it and said Well this still can run into some ports on the side of the camera which is something that you know the community has definitely made it very well-known with us so we’ve just made it that you can also flip this out and then now you have a totally unobstructed access to your ports it’s Very interesting that you say that because as a hybrid shooter myself which means I’m also very much photographer there are many photographers in fact I dare say that most photographers prefer the tilty screen when they’re looking to shoot from waist level that they have one less thing to do when then flipping It out oh yeah and I’m I’m I’m wholeheartedly in that group sorry but I having having a screen that’s on optic axis so that I can see and shoot here now granted I understand you know shoot vertical you still have to have the flip Out as none of you can see what I was doing but that’s where my s1r comes in so they interplay incredibly well in this system and same with the g9 the gh five there it’s a system that as a whole you have a solid plan from the Four Thirds cameras up to full framing and now into Vera cam and things like that the thing that’s so interesting about this camera to me is that it is an even better melding of the cameras that you’ve talked about then I think the original s1 it’s like the gh 5s because It has dual native correct yep it’s unlike the gh 5s because you didn’t have to do a low megapixel count sensor it’s still 24 megapixels and you didn’t have to delete ibis correct yeah so a lot of that is just from things that we’ve learned and and possibilities that the New the new full-frame format allows us in design we’re on the gh 5s it was a multi aspect sensor so it’s a like I think a 1.8 crop instead of a 2 so you do run into technical challenges of the sensor not being able to move as far if At all out of the circle of coverage we’re full frame because from day one we knew we wanted to do this you can design your optics are covering more than enough space for this and it’s still a multi aspect sensor I kind of multi aspect in the sense that we can shoot in A three by two aspect ratio and we maximize that that’s that image area being recorded it’s not an oversized 35 millimeter sensor point which multi aspect a lot of people I know online were questioning how that was possible but it is a the recording methods are using the maximum Space available for that one of the things that’s interesting in the photo industry these days or the imaging industry is the notion of minimally Viable Product MMP it’s a concept bar from the software industry and it’s sometimes frustrating it’s often frustrating for consumers because we often feel like we are beta Testers mm-hmm and yet the flipside is the speed with which you guys are iterating the industry is iterating cameras taking that feedback and incorporating it is quite extraordinary for what is at the end of the day a hardware based product so I loved the fact that unlike the what is this the s1 S1 our s1 are with this on/off switch which I never loved I’ll say that you don’t have that switch this time around correct you’ve taken it straight out of the g9 correct and and those are those are decisions that come across you know where there haven’t seen it so there Oh Like that yeah there you go like that those are those are decisions that come across when you look at just general organ Amish and what the market request was when we looked at the market for the s-1 and s1r I think people need to remember that their photography first Cameras those two yes the s-1 has V log V gamma it’s 14 stops waveform all that cuts up in ten bit those are things that we can do so why not do them kind of thing we shouldn’t hold back certain things because you know product segmentation or that idea I love video Because that happens yeah but that still doesn’t change the fact that from an ergonomic standpoint you still do make some changes because you’re looking at what a target segment is requesting and in that it’s why we don’t have the very angle screen on these cameras because on The s-1 and s1 are because the target market segment of photojournalists preferred that over this but when we go to the cinema crowd it’s a lot better to have faster access to the on-off switches you want large record buttons that are easy to see easy fine and when you look And say well you want one up here and we want one down here well that means okay we don’t have the function lever switch up here and okay so we just move the power switch out of here because now you have a really easy access record it Works really well it’s it’s a very function first I deal with some of this stuff are they the most beautiful looking cameras in the world that’s debatable I think they look right follows function exactly and and that’s what we’ve always kind of looked at as a company we make Incredibly pragmatic products we use our GS yeah just about every day now there are other things too as opposed to the s1 twins this has dual card slots but they’re both SD that took me by surprise correct yep and there’s a good reason for that too I’m sure And you’re gonna suppose so one being you know…
