Features of the Sony a9 II

24 megapixel sensor, 3.7 million EVF, Z battery, left top plate dial, black out 320 frames per second burst rate, updated processor, improved battery life, upgraded Ibis now five-and-a-half stops. Stills and video the ability to move focus point while the shutter is half pressed, autofocus algorithms improvement, weather sealing, color science, dual UHS to high-speed card slots, 10 frames per second mechanical shutter, additional rear control dial and improved grip.

Enhanced Workflow

Sony has also added new workflow bits that make it more attractive to pro shooters and the organizations for which they work. This includes 5 gigahertz Wi-Fi for faster, more reliable image transfer, gigabit now Ethernet port, the ability to store up to 10 profiles making it a better pool camera for multiple shooters, and the ability to save FTP settings for easy transfer between venues. Additionally, there’s a remote camera tool 2.1 app for remote formatting, changing FTP settings, and changing the slot to which still images can be saved.

The Sony a9 II is the camera Sony expects will take away more share from Canon and Nikon at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Priced at $4,500 at launch, it is currently selling for $1,000 less at $3,500, making it a compelling purchase alternative for those seeking the best autofocus in the industry.


The most salient difference between the two launches is that unlike the original, the a9 II arrives in November, coinciding with the availability of super telephoto lenses such as the 400 2.8 and 200 to 600 5.6.
