My Daily Bag for Photography and Filmmaking
Introduction
A couple of years ago, I shared a video about what was in my daily bag for photography and filmmaking during my trip to Rome. However, since then, the contents of my bag have changed significantly. In a recent video, many of you expressed interest in knowing what I carry around with me every day. So, I decided to make a video discussing my daily bag and its contents. Let’s dive in!
The Bag – Pro Tactic BP 250 by Low Pro
I use the Pro Tactic BP 250 by Low Pro as my daily bag. The main reason I chose this bag is because it is narrower than most camera bags. When I switched to mirrorless cameras, I found that my old bags were too deep and my Sony cameras would bounce around inside. The Pro Tactic BP 250 is narrower, allowing the cameras to fit snugly without much movement. It also has multiple entry ports, making it easy to access the cameras from both sides. The main access to the bag is from the back, providing added security and ventilation for street photography. It is the perfect bag for my needs.
The Loadout
Now let’s take a look at what I carry in my daily bag to get the most out of my gear without adding unnecessary weight.
Main Camera – Sony A7 III
My main camera is the Sony A7 III. I chose this camera because it offers the perfect balance between portability and quality for both stills and video. I also use a small strap from Amazon for added security.
Preferred Lens – Sam Young 35mm f/2.8
For street photography, my preferred lens is the Sam Young 35mm f/2.8. It’s a small plastic prime lens that is both inexpensive and lightweight. The size of this lens, combined with the Sony A7 III, makes the camera setup smaller than my friend’s Fujifilm X-Pro2 with a 35mm f/2 lens. The images produced by this lens are sharp and perfect for my street photography needs.
Go-To Lens for Video – Tamron 28-275mm f/2.8
When it comes to filming on the go, my go-to lens is the Tamron 28-275mm f/2.8. This lens is incredibly versatile and produces outstanding image quality. While the Sony G Master 24-270mm lens may technically be better, it is heavier and significantly more expensive. I have been thoroughly impressed with the images and videos I can capture with the Tamron lens, and it performs exceptionally well even in low-light conditions.
Portrait Lens – Sony 55mm f/1.8
Since I also do portraiture, I wanted to have a lens dedicated to this genre. While the Tamron lens is great for video, I found that I didn’t quite like the bokeh and fall-off it produced for portraits. So, I opted for the Sony 55mm f/1.8 lens. It is a lightweight and beautiful lens that provides stunning results for portraits. It has become my go-to lens for all my portrait work, and I couldn’t be happier with it.
Conclusion
In conclusion, my daily bag for photography and filmmaking is specifically curated to allow me to capture high-quality images and videos without compromising on portability. The Pro Tactic BP 250 bag, combined with the Sony A7 III and carefully selected lenses, gives me the flexibility to shoot in various genres and complete my day-to-day tasks efficiently. Having a lightweight and versatile kit has made a significant difference in my everyday photography and filmmaking experiences.
