Skylum Luminar Neo First Look

Skylum, who are sponsoring this video, gave me a sneaky little peek at their brand new editing software called Luminar Neo. I’ve been playing around with it for the last couple of days. If you’re already familiar with another Skylum software called Luminar AI, then you know how it has allowed photographers to take full advantage of the power of artificial intelligence to speed up workflow and unlock creative possibilities.

Relight AI Tool

I’ve imported a selection of photos into Luminar Neo and started editing a photo from Tasmania. With the new Relight AI tool, I can create a 3D depth map of the image using AI to adjust brightness near and far, and depth. This tool allows me to make subjects pop from the background by accentuating or darkening different elements based on their depth in the image.

Portrait Editing with Relight Tool

In a portrait image of my friend Sophia, I used the Relight tool to make her pop off the background. Adjusting brightness near and far sliders subtly enhanced the portrait, making her stand out without needing additional equipment like reflectors.

Power Line Removal

Removing power lines from images used to be a hassle, but with Luminar Neo, it’s a breeze. Simply using the erase tool and selecting “remove power lines” made the unsightly power line in a composition disappear seamlessly. No more avoiding shots with power lines in them!

Dust Spot Removal

High f-number shots often result in dust spots on the sensor, but Luminar Neo’s AI-powered erase tool can quickly remove them with just one click. The software can differentiate between dust spots and clouds, making the editing process efficient and effective.

Luminar Neo’s new features powered by artificial intelligence make editing photos a breeze. Whether you want to make your subjects pop from the background, remove unwanted elements like power lines, or get rid of dust spots, this software has got you covered. With easy-to-use tools and impressive AI capabilities, Luminar Neo is a game-changer for photographers looking to streamline their editing process and unleash their creativity.
