Introduction

Okay, so here’s the deal. I had all these big plans that this week’s video was gonna be about how today was my first day where I got to work from home for Resonate, but that idea’s gonna have to wait for another time. I did get a whole workday in, but then right at the end when I was trying to export video files, my stupid computer started acting up. This has been going on for a little while now, so I thought it was about time that I did a little bit of a story time about my computer.

The MacBook Pro 2016 Touch Bar Model

Fairly recently, in December, I got a new MacBook Pro 2016 touch bar model and I was really excited about it. I made a video about it because this was super exciting for me. Little did I know that I would have a whole host of issues with it. So I’m literally having to take this thing into the Genius Bar for the third time to try and get it fixed right now. While I’m on my way there, I’ll tell you guys the story about what’s been happening.

First Trip to the Genius Bar

USB Adapter Issue

The first thing that I noticed was that I got this USB adapter that was supposed to allow me to use HDMI displays with the computer. However, it didn’t work at all. So, I returned the adapter assuming that it was the problem. Of course, it couldn’t be the fault of the computer since it was brand new. I got a different adapter, but that one also didn’t work. This HDMI problem was the first sign that this might be a problem computer.

Computer Freezing and Spinning Wheel of Death

Next, while I was working in Lightroom editing some photos, the computer started to freeze up. I waited, hoping it would resolve itself, but eventually, it went to a black screen with a flashing folder icon with a question mark. I had to hard boot the computer and upon restarting, I reported the issue. I hoped it was just a one-off problem, but unfortunately, the next day, I encountered another issue.

Speaker and Keyboard Issues

When I opened the computer to do some video editing, I noticed that the right speaker was playing at half volume and there was no high end. This was the final straw for me, so I booked an appointment at the Genius Bar. They checked the computer and told me that they needed to replace the entire top section, including the speakers and the keyboard. I left my computer there for repair.

Disappointing Customer Service Experience

Unfortunately, the repair process became a frustrating experience with the Genius Bar.

Delays and Lack of Communication

I brought the computer in on a Saturday and was initially told that it would be fixed and returned to me by Tuesday or Wednesday. However, I received an update call on Tuesday, pushing the completion date to Wednesday or Thursday. By Friday, I still hadn’t heard anything, so I called them. They informed me that they hadn’t even started working on my computer yet. I expressed my urgency and they promised to work on it the next morning.

The next morning came, but I didn’t receive the promised call. I decided to visit the Apple Store and was told that something broke on the logic board during the repair attempt, requiring further replacement and more time. I was frustrated that they didn’t communicate this setback to me beforehand.

The Second Repair

Eventually, I got my computer back after a few more days. The speaker was fixed, but it was hard to tell if any other issues were resolved. With the top section and logic board replaced, I practically had a brand new computer.

Unfortunately, even after the second repair, the same problems persisted…
