Lumix S1R: First Impressions

Welcome to a very exciting video! Today, I am thrilled to be sponsored by Lumix and have the opportunity to share my first impressions of the Panasonic Lumix S1R. Many of you have been asking me about this camera for a long time, and now I finally have it in my hands. Let’s dive in and see what I think.

Testing and Comparing

Before I begin, I want to clarify that I am a Lumix ambassador and have been using Lumix cameras for years. I genuinely love their cameras, which is why I am a brand ambassador. Due to my sponsorship, I feel that a traditional review may not provide the most objective insights. Instead, I will be spending the next few weeks testing this camera while it is on loan to me. At the end of this period, I will create a video comparing it to the Lumix G9, which I currently use for stills and video recording. I will discuss whether or not I would switch to the S1R and my reasons for it.

Size and Weight

Upon first picking up the Lumix S1R, I can immediately feel the difference compared to the Lumix G9. This camera is significantly bigger and heavier, which stands out to me since I have been primarily using micro four-thirds cameras. However, the size and weight of the S1R do not necessarily detract from its appeal. It is important to consider the benefits of a larger camera and if it aligns with your photography needs.

Aspect Ratio and Resolution

One notable change for me when using the S1R is the transition from shooting in a 4:3 aspect ratio to a 3:2 aspect ratio. I have grown to love the 4:3 aspect ratio, as it maximizes the use of the micro four-thirds sensor. While it is simple to change the aspect ratio on any mirrorless camera, shooting in the native aspect ratio can offer the best results in terms of maximizing the sensor’s capabilities. With the S1R’s impressive 47-megapixel resolution, I am excited to test its image quality and see if it justifies the switch from my preferred 4:3 aspect ratio.

Stabilization and Handheld Shooting

Another crucial aspect I am eager to explore is the S1R’s stabilization capabilities. The Lumix G9 impressed me with its five-axis image stabilization, which combined in-lens and in-body stabilization to enable sharp handheld shots. As someone who tries to avoid tripods whenever possible, this feature has been invaluable to me. If the S1R can match or surpass the G9’s stabilization, it would be a significant advantage for handheld photography and videography.

Build Quality and Durability

The build quality of the Lumix S1R is exceptional. Having used Lumix cameras extensively, I have developed a deep appreciation for their sturdiness. The S1R feels like a robust piece of equipment, and I have no concerns about treating it with the same level of care as a DSLR camera. This durability is particularly essential for outdoor photographers who may encounter challenging conditions. The S1R’s build quality gives me confidence that it can withstand whatever the elements throw at it.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I am excited to thoroughly test the Lumix S1R over the next few weeks and compare it to the Lumix G9. While I may not be able to provide a traditional review due to my sponsorship, I will offer my insights and opinions based on my experience as a Lumix ambassador and long-time user of their cameras. Stay tuned for the final video where I will discuss whether or not I believe the S1R could replace the G9 for my photography needs. As I continue my testing, I’ll also make sure to apply some up-to-date suncream to avoid getting sunburnt during my adventures with the Lumix S1R.
