I FAILED!!! What would you have done???

Have you ever experienced a significant setback or failure in your life? It can be incredibly disheartening and demotivating when things don’t go as planned. But here’s the thing: failure is a natural part of the journey toward success! We often look up to successful individuals and admire their achievements, but what we don’t always realize is that they too have faced countless failures along the way. So instead of dwelling on our failures, let’s shift our focus to what we can learn from them and how we can bounce back stronger. In this blog, we will explore the concept of failure, share inspiring stories of resilience, and provide actionable tips for turning failure into an opportunity for growth and success.

I FAILED!!! What would you have done???

Introduction

In a recent event, I had the opportunity to photograph Lionel Messi, and I wanted to document my experience and share it with you. Join me as I take you through my journey, from preparations to capturing the moments, and discuss what I could have done differently to enhance my results.

Preparations and Gear

Prior to the event, I made sure to equip myself with the necessary gear. I had two R3 cameras – one with a 40-28 lens and the other with a wider lens – either a 70-200 or a 28-70. I also had a 360 camera and a comfortable stool to position myself for the best shots.

First Half – Learning from Mistakes

During the first half of the game, I positioned myself in the corner to get a unique perspective. However, I soon realized that it limited my ability to capture Messi’s full range of movement. He took a shot from a long distance and scored, but when he started running, I couldn’t keep him fully in frame due to the tightness of my lens. I should have used a wider lens, such as a 100-300, to capture his dynamic movements better.

Editing and Selecting the Best Shots

Out of the 536 photos I took of Messi, I selected 42 that stood out to me. From those, I finally narrowed it down to 8 exceptional shots. I believe in showcasing both the good and not-so-good images, as it allows me to share the learning experience with my audience. Editing plays a crucial role in elevating the quality of sports photography, and I encourage fellow photographers to take the extra time to enhance their images.

Sharing the Experience

To show my gratitude to my followers, I will be giving away 10 prints of my best shots. Five prints will be randomly selected for those who purchase Fro Pack 4 from my website. Additionally, five prints will be given to individuals who leave comments on this YouTube video. To ensure everyone can enjoy the images, I will also provide full-resolution downloads on Flickr, although they are strictly for personal use and not for resale.

Second Half – Overcoming Lighting Challenges

As the game progressed into the second half, the lighting conditions deteriorated, leading to increased ISO levels and poor color quality. Despite these challenges, I managed to capture some incredible moments, including Messi’s jump, which can easily be likened to an iconic EA Sports image.

Conclusion

While the overall outcome may not have been perfect, I believe I achieved my goal of capturing memorable shots of Lionel Messi. Reflecting on this experience, I have learned the importance of equipment selection, positioning, and editing. Thank you for joining me on this journey, and be sure to download the images and enter for a chance to win a print. Stay tuned for more exciting adventures in sports photography!
