How to Upgrade Laptop RAM – feat. Lenovo Legion 7i Pro – i9 13900HX + NVIDIA RTX 4080

What’s up everyone, Vu of envo films here with another video. Today, we will be discussing how to upgrade the RAM on your laptop, specifically the Lenovo Legion 7i Pro. This laptop model comes with impressive specs, including an Intel i9 13900HX processor, 32 gigabytes of DDR5 RAM, clocked at 5600 megahertz from SK hynix, and an Nvidia RTX 4080 GPU. While 32 gigabytes of RAM might be sufficient for gaming, for intensive tasks like video editing with software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, and Lightroom, you may find that it is not enough. In my case, I needed more RAM to handle my video editing workload, so I decided to upgrade to 64 gigabytes of RAM using the Kingston Fury ddr5 5600 megahertz RAM, which I purchased directly from Kingston. If you are looking to upgrade your laptop’s RAM to this size and speed, you can find the link in the description below.

Removing the Laptop Back Cover

Upgrading the RAM on a laptop is a relatively easy process. To begin, simply flip the laptop over and remove all the screws. It is essential to keep the screws organized to know exactly where each screw goes. Additionally, you may need a screwdriver kit with small screws designed for laptops. Take note of the different sizes of screws in your laptop and set them aside accordingly. To remove the back cover, a plastic prying tool may also be necessary, as you gently work on finding a crack to open the cover. With a little force and careful prying, the cover will pop off. It’s worth mentioning that laptops are more sturdy than they appear, so there’s no need to worry about breaking anything.

Accessing and Removing the Existing Memory

Once the back cover is removed, you will notice that the memory is covered, most likely for thermal purposes and heat sinking. The next step is to remove the cover to expose the current RAM sticks. In this particular laptop, there are two sticks of RAM. Before removing the RAM, it is crucial to discharge any static electricity by touching a metal surface away from the laptop. This step helps prevent any potential damage to the electronic parts. In my case, I made the mistake of starting to remove the RAM before removing the battery, but it didn’t cause any issues. After removing the battery, simply pull apart the clips securing the RAM sticks, and they will pop right out.

Installing the New RAM

Now it’s time to install the new RAM. In my case, I am using two 32-gigabyte sticks of RAM to achieve a total of 64 gigabytes. To install the new RAM, simply align the stick with the slot and gently push it in until it clicks into place. It is essential not to apply too much force, as a gentle push is sufficient. Repeat this step for the second stick of RAM. The order in which the sticks are inserted does not matter, as long as they are properly inserted. Once both sticks are in place, you can proceed to put the cover back on, while ensuring that the battery is also reinstalled. Carefully snap every part of the cover into place to avoid any warping or misalignment. Finally, secure the cover in place by screwing it back on.

Checking the RAM Upgrade

After completing the installation, it’s time to turn on your laptop and check if the new RAM is detected. If it is not detected, there may be an issue with compatibility or incorrect installation. To verify the RAM upgrade, open the task manager and check if the upgraded RAM capacity is displayed. Additionally, run some programs to ensure that the computer is utilizing the additional RAM effectively.

I hope this video has been helpful in guiding you through the process of upgrading your laptop’s RAM. Remember to always take necessary precautions when working with electronic components, and double-check your installation to ensure everything is correctly installed. Until next time, happy upgrading!
