How to Start Getting Paid for Videography

What’s up everyone, Vue of Andrew Films here and I’m back with another video for you to watch. Today, I’m here to talk to you about how to get paid doing videography, filmmaking, and being that cinematographer that you’ve always wanted to be. Let’s get started!

Starting from the Bottom

Back in 2013, my wife and I got married. We hired an expensive wedding videographer, and I got inspired to start filming family moments. I posted a travel video on Facebook and received some encouragement from friends, and that’s how it all began.

Finding Your Worth

If you’re just starting out, you may feel like you’re worth nothing as a videographer. I was in the same position, but with practice and determination, you can start building your credibility and skills.

Building Your Portfolio

As I continued to film, I offered to film a friend’s wedding for free, and then another friend’s brother’s wedding. This allowed me to build a portfolio and gain experience.

First Paid Gig

Curious to see if I could get paid for my work, I went to Craigslist and found someone looking for a wedding videographer with a specific style but a limited budget. I offered to do the job for a thousand dollars, and they accepted. This marked my first paid gig, and it was a significant moment in my journey.

Starting out in videography or filmmaking may seem daunting, but with determination, practice, and a little bit of luck, you can turn your passion into a career.
