How I Edit My Photos for Instagram
Introduction
Welcome back to my channel! In this video, I will be sharing my photography editing process, specifically when it comes to editing portraits for Instagram. I will take you through every step, from importing the photos to exporting them for Instagram. So, let’s jump into it!
Importing and Organizing
I use Adobe Lightroom to edit all of my images. After creating a new catalog, I import the photos from the shoot. To make it easier to focus on the images, I change the background to white. To do this, simply right-click on the background and choose your preferred color, I personally prefer white. Once all the images are imported, I check to ensure they’re all there. Then, I select the images I want to edit.
Choosing Images and Ratings
To select the images, I go through each one using the arrow keys and press “1” on the keyboard for the ones I want to edit. This sets a one-star rating. You can use different ratings for different sets of images, but I prefer to keep it simple with just one star. To show only the selected images, I click on the filter box in the bottom right-hand corner and choose “rated”.
Editing Process
Now, let’s edit a couple of my favorite photos from the selected collection. On the left side of Lightroom, I have a range of user presets that reflect my photographic style. I’ll be giving one of these presets for free, which you can download from the description. For this image, I’ll apply preset number ten, which does most of the work for me. I’ll adjust the exposure and temperature sliders to achieve the desired look. Afterwards, I’ll crop the image to the Instagram-friendly 4:5 aspect ratio, focusing on the model’s eyes and giving a slight upward headroom. Then, using the brush tool, I’ll enhance the eyes by increasing the exposure and contrast.
Conclusion
That’s it! This is my process for editing photos for Instagram. I like to keep things simple by relying on presets and making small adjustments to achieve the desired look. Remember, photography is all about experimenting and finding your own style. Have fun editing your photos and I hope you found this video helpful!

Q: How do you achieve a consistent aesthetic in your photo feed?
A: To maintain a consistent aesthetic, I make use of Lightroom presets which are ready-made filters that I apply to my photos. This helps in creating a cohesive look throughout my Instagram feed.
Q: Could you share some tips for enhancing the colors of my photos?
A: Of course! One effective technique is using the “Vibrance” tool in Lightroom. It enhances the saturation of less saturated colors while keeping skin tones and already vibrant colors more natural.
