Everybody, I’m Hugh Brownstone for Three Blind Men and an Elephant, and I’m delighted to be back here at Hasselblad’s New York experience studio with one of my favorite folks in the industry, Dan Wang, director of marketing Americas for Hasselblad. Dan, this place is beginning to feel like a home away from home.

New Features and Improvements

Dan discusses the improvements made in the new Hasselblad X1D II, focusing on accessibility and usability. One of the key complaints from users of the first generation X1D was the responsiveness, and the new camera addresses this with snappier performance, reduced blackout time between frames, and improved boot time. The touch interface has also been enhanced for better responsiveness, making the camera feel more intuitive to use.

Continuous Firmware Updates

Dan explains how Hasselblad continues to evolve the camera through free firmware updates, citing the example of autofocus points. The original X1D only had one autofocus point in the center, but through updates, users now have movable and resizable autofocus points, enhancing the overall shooting experience.

Enhanced Size and Display

The new X1D II features a larger 3.7-inch rear LCD touchscreen and an OLED EVF with higher resolution and faster frame rates. Dan highlights how the new EVF provides a greater eye relief, similar to the experience of using a mirror prism camera, making the world appear larger and more immersive to the user.

Long Exposure Capabilities

The X1D II is capable of long exposure times up to one hour, making it suitable for landscape and astrophotography. Dan explains how users can now power the camera from a USB battery brick, extending the battery life for extended shooting sessions. The camera’s USB type-C port also allows for on-the-go charging, providing added flexibility for photographers on the move.

Connectivity and Tethered Shooting

Dan introduces a new version of Focus Mobile for the iPad, allowing users to tether the X1D II to an iPad Pro for a seamless shooting and post-processing workflow. This feature enables full-resolution RAW or JPEG transfer to the iPad, giving photographers the flexibility to store and edit their images on a portable device without the need for a laptop or desktop computer.

Speed and Stability

The X1D II now supports USB 3 speeds when tethered to an iPad using a type-C cable, providing a more stable and faster data transfer rate compared to Wi-Fi. The camera still includes Wi-Fi connectivity for added flexibility, but the wired connection offers increased reliability when transferring large RAW files.

In conclusion, Dan Wang highlights the advancements made in the Hasselblad X1D II, focusing on accessibility, usability, and connectivity. The camera’s new features and improvements make it a versatile tool for photographers looking to push the boundaries of medium format photography in various shooting scenarios.
