Fujifilm X-S20 Review: The BEST Midrange Camera?

Welcome back to petapixel! It’s Chris Nichols and it’s finally the review that you’ve been waiting for – the Fujifilm X-S20. Let’s dive into it!

Introduction to Picflow

Hey Jordan, I know people are waiting a long time for this review but I just can’t stop thinking about Picflow. It’s amazing software that lets the photographer and the client collaborate on the final image.

First off, I can make client galleries, upload full res raws, and then the client can make notes, annotations, suggestions, edits that they want to see. Then I can bring my editors and my retouchers into the conversation as well. We can all collaborate to make sure the images are the best possible. And the best part is that everybody involved will have access to files through the Picflow software. You definitely want to check it out. You can get 50% off right now for the first hundred people that sign up through the link in the description below. So Jordan, get on it!

Now, let’s talk about the handling of the Fujifilm X-S20. The layout structure of the buttons is very similar to the Fujifilm X-S10, which is a good thing because that’s what I like so much about the camera. Everything feels good, but I love how many control dials I have here. The auto focusing button on the back, the selector joystick, and the new robust mode dial are all great features that contribute to its easy handling.

The new w235 battery is a huge upgrade, providing roughly 750 shots in the normal power mode. The addition of a headphone jack is also a welcome change. The camera looks a little bit bigger but is lightweight, making it compact and easy to handle.

Image Quality and Features

Now let’s talk about the heart of the Fujifilm X-S20 – the Fuji X trans backside illuminated 26-megapixel sensor. Sure, it’s not a brand new sensor, but we have better processing power here, and it gives us some advantages when it comes to autofocus and video quality. The 26-megapixel sensor is better for video and provides good color, dynamic range, and detail for an APS-C camera. The seven-stop IBIS is a nice upgrade from its predecessor and makes it a powerful hybrid camera.

The back panel features a high-res fully articulating three-inch 1.84 million-dot LCD, which works great for both photography and videography. The EVF, with 2.34 million dots, is slightly lower than desired, but it still provides a good viewing experience, especially at this price point.

The Fujifilm X-S20 also adds nostalgic negative to all the other Fujifilm Fun color simulations, enhancing the creative possibilities for photographers.

Overall, the Fujifilm X-S20 is a solid midrange camera that offers great handling, image quality, and features for both photography and videography. If you’re looking for a versatile and reliable camera, the X-S20 is definitely worth considering.
