Favorite GoPro Mounts – Magnetic vs. Suction

Introduction

Look what just came in the mail: the 19 apple polishing cloth. This might be the most apple product that there’s ever been – a polishing cloth for $19. It has received a fair bit of criticism online, but I thought I’d get one because it seemed ridiculous and I wanted one. Now, I’m debating whether to keep it as an unopened Apple keepsake. Let’s open it up.

In today’s video, we are going to be talking about my two favorite mounts for GoPros and any sort of action cameras like the DJI Action 2 and 360. These are my two favorite mounts: the magnetic mount from Snap Mounts and the suction cup mount from Sea Sucker. We will go through the pros and cons of each of these two mounts, as well as their use case scenarios. So, when do I use a magnetic mount, and when do I switch to a suction mount?

Snap Mounts Magnetic Mount

The Snap Mounts magnetic mount is a base piece that folds down but can be folded up to see the screen at the back. This makes all other mounts magnetic. The back of the magnetic mount is magnetic, and I have little adapter bits that I put onto any other GoPro mount. With this adapter bit, I can attach my GoPro with the base plate to any other mount. Whether it’s a bike mount or a suction mount, I can simply slap my GoPro onto it magnetically. This allows for a quick and easy switch between mounts, without the need to unscrew and rescrew the GoPro. Additionally, because of the magnets, I can mount the GoPro on any metal surface, such as a refrigerator or the side of my van. There are various use cases for a magnetic mount.

Sea Sucker Suction Cup Mount

The Sea Sucker suction cup mount is a suction piece that provides a strong and secure hold for the GoPro. Sea Sucker is known for their bike racks, and they use similar suction cups for their mounts. I attach a magic arm on top of the suction cup so I can mount my GoPro securely. This setup provides a reliable and stable mount for my GoPro. The suction cup mount is ideal for scenarios where a magnetic mount may not be suitable, such as off-roading or high-intensity activities. It offers a secure hold even in extreme conditions.

Pros and Cons of Each Mount

Now let’s talk about the pros and cons of each mount: magnets and suction cups. The magnet mount from Snap Mounts is fast and efficient, allowing for quick switches between mounts without the need for manual adjustments. It offers a secure hold and enables mounting on metal surfaces. On the other hand, the suction cup mount from Sea Sucker provides a reliable and stable hold, especially for intense activities. It is ideal for scenarios where magnets may not be sufficient.

Conclusion

In conclusion, both the magnetic and suction cup mounts have their advantages and use case scenarios. Use the magnetic mount from Snap Mounts for quick switches between mounts and for mounting on metal surfaces. The suction cup mount from Sea Sucker is perfect for high-intensity activities and ensures a secure hold. Choose the mount that best suits your needs and preferences.

Favorite GoPro Mounts – FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions – Favorite GoPro Mounts

1. What are the advantages of using Magnetic mounts?

Magnetic GoPro mounts offer a quick and easy setup. They can securely hold your GoPro camera in place even during intense activities. Magnetic mounts also provide flexibility, allowing you to easily reposition your camera at different angles for unique shots.

2. Are Magnetic mounts suitable for all types of surfaces?

Magnetic mounts work best on metallic surfaces such as car hoods, railings, or metal poles. It is important to note that they do not work on non-metallic surfaces like wood or plastic.

3. What are the advantages of using Suction mounts?

Suction mounts provide a strong grip on smooth surfaces like car windshields, windows, or flat metal surfaces. They offer stability and security, ensuring your GoPro stays in place during high-speed activities or vibrations.

4. Can Suction mounts be used underwater?

No, suction mounts are not designed for underwater use. They depend on airtight suction to hold the camera in place, and water can compromise the adhesion. It is recommended to use waterproof housing or specific underwater mounts instead.

5. Which mount is better for capturing fast-paced action?

Suction mounts are generally more suitable for capturing fast-paced action as they provide a stronger hold and stability. However, magnetic mounts can also be used effectively by ensuring they are securely attached to a suitable metallic surface.

6. Can I reuse magnetic and suction mounts?

Yes, both magnetic and suction mounts are reusable. However, it is important to regularly inspect the mounts for any signs of wear or damage. Ensure that the suction cups are clean and in good condition before use. Similarly, check the magnetic strength for structural integrity.
