Experience Stunning Video Quality with the iPhone 15 Pro Max!

Today we’re testing out Apple log on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. To be fully honest, I was super skeptical at first. I’ve never really enjoyed shooting video on my phone when I have the option of a more professional camera there to use, but this experience may have actually converted me and I find myself more often trying to work my phone into my process now. But I’m getting ahead of myself. First, let me show you the footage from the iPhone 15 Pro Max so you can decide for yourself whether it looks good or not. After the example, I’ll talk about my experience both shooting and dealing with the footage afterwards and I’ll talk about some tips, tricks, and settings that you can choose to shoot better videos using Apple log with your phone. As well as how I color grade it secure the cup and please enjoy the following video was filmed on the iPhone 15 Pro Max in prores appal log using the default camera app [Applause] I can see it in your eyes the feeling fleeting and I know I felt this way before I can here your voice so loud in the bedroom crying on the floor and I know you can’t B it anymore. I can feel it in my soul, the way your heart and the fear in your mind then I know I love you so we made it to the top ready for a snack and this is the view beautiful can you do.

Camera Performance

Like I said before, I shot that whole thing only using the default camera app and there are other options out there that you can use. I really wanted to make this test something that felt real the way that I would want to use my iPhone as a secondary camera to a bigger one or just kind of in a way that makes it really easy for anyone to just pick up the camera and film no problem. The other thing to note is that I wasn’t using any kind of special filmmaking gear; no filters, no rigs, no cages, no anything like that. I’ve got this kind of basic case from Peak design which is really nice and it does have the option to add some of that stuff on but I was just using it handheld as you’re seeing it here on the table. Shout out to Peak design for sending me out these cases, though they’re definitely sick. As far as the process of shooting all of that stuff, I just mentioned made it really simple and we’ve got really great stabilization built in so that was nice. There were a couple of shots in there that I swear looked like they were on a tripod but they were actually just handheld. But that also comes with a couple of limitations. The whole thing was shot in 4k 24 frames per second. I didn’t have the ability to shoot anything in 60 frames per second but we’ll talk about how we can get around that in a minute.

Shooting Quality and Flexibility

One of the pain points that I ran into using the default camera app is that there’s no way to separate exposure and focus points. So, for example, if we tap somewhere on the screen, it’s going to focus on that area and it’s also going to set the exposure there. You can kind of do this thing where you tap and hold to autofocus and auto-exposure lock and then you can kind of drag it up and down. But if at any point you wanted to change the focus point you tap somewhere else it’s going to rebalance your exposure. What I would love to be able to do is leave the autofocus doing its thing cuz autofocus on the camera is decent and then just set my exposure manually again this is something that you can do in some of the other apps which we’ll get to in a minute. One thing that I thought I might not like that I actually ended up kind of liking is switching between lenses as I was shooting video. It’s got this kind of cool crash zoom effect that has a little bit of an ease at the end. You can kind of see when it switches lenses. But I thought it looked pretty good all things considered.
