You may have noticed myself and a good handful of other video creators out there using this kind of pop-up text animation. It’s a really simple thing that gives a little bit of life to your text instead of just having it appear out of nowhere. So in this article, I’m going to show you a couple of different ways that you can do this with your own text.

If you get to the end and you decide that you’d rather save yourself the headache and you don’t want to have to do this every time that you want this effect on your text, I’ve also created a pack of drag and drop titles for DaVinci Resolve that includes five different extremely useful variations of this pop-on text effect. You can find the download link at the end of this article.

Method 1: Using the Layout Page in DaVinci Resolve

The first way to achieve this animation is right in the edit page, without having to go into Fusion. Here’s how:

1. Go to the Effects panel and find the Text tool.
2. Add the Text Plus tool to your timeline.
3. Go to the Layout tab under the inspector.
4. Place your cursor on the first frame of your title and ensure that it’s highlighted in the timeline.
5. Add a keyframe at this point.
6. Move four frames forward and add another keyframe.
7. Go back one frame and change the size to 1.1.
8. Go back to the start and change the size to 0.
9. Now you have a bounce effect on your text.

If you want to apply this effect to multiple texts, you can just hold alt or option and drag it over, and then change the text accordingly.

Method 2: Utilizing Fusion in DaVinci Resolve

The second method involves diving into Fusion. Here’s how:

1. Click on the Fusion tab in DaVinci Resolve.
2. With your text selected, set a keyframe on the first frame.
3. Move to frame four and set the size to 1.
4. Open the spline editor and select both keyframes.
5. Right-click and choose the “Ease” option.
6. Choose “Outback Cubic” to create a bounce effect.
7. Adjust the timing as desired.
8. Enjoy the bounce effect on your text.

Variations of the Pop-Up Text Effect

If you want to achieve a quicker pop-up effect, you can start the text at a slightly larger size instead of starting from zero. This works great for doing quick pop-ups word by word in a sentence.

To create a pop-on effect word by word, you can follow the same steps as mentioned above and adjust the timing and size of each word accordingly.
