DJI Mini 3 PRO w RC – First Impressions (vs Mini 2)

Introduction

I recently sold my Mavic Mini 2 and upgraded to the all-new Mavic Mini 3. The Mini 2 was a favorite of mine due to its compact and lightweight design, making it perfect for travel. Despite its limitations in image quality, I was willing to make the sacrifice to avoid carrying a heavier drone like the Mavic 3. Now, it’s time to share my first impressions of the Mini 3, as well as the RC package that includes the remote control with a screen.

Unboxing and Setup

Fresh out of the box, the Mini 3 immediately caught my attention. The inclusion of the remote control with a built-in screen was a game changer, eliminating the need to carry a phone and ensuring optimal performance without the hassle of constant charging. An important firmware update was required, promising optimized flight stability and improved image quality. After a brief wait for the update, I was ready to take to the skies.

Flight Performance

Despite the cloudy weather, the Mini 3 took off smoothly and showcased exceptional stability, even in the presence of wind. The reintroduction of the portrait orientation feature was a noteworthy improvement, adding versatility to the drone’s capabilities. For those curious about the drone’s image quality, I have included raw files in the description for reference. The drone’s stability in varying weather conditions and its impressive flight time left me thoroughly satisfied with its performance.

Controller Features

The inclusion of custom buttons on the remote control allowed for convenient access to essential functions. While the default control settings worked well, the dual setup of the photo and video buttons took some getting used to. Additionally, adjusting the sensitivity of the gimbal rotation for smoother control was necessary for optimal filming. The screen brightness and the option to use a micro SD card for screen recordings further enhanced the controller’s functionality.

Conclusion

The DJI Mini 3 PRO with RC package has undoubtedly surpassed my expectations, offering significant improvements over its predecessor. With features that cater to both amateurs and professionals, this compact drone is a worthy investment for aerial enthusiasts. As I eagerly await the opportunity to test out the upgraded batteries for extended flight time, the Mini 3 has already proven its capabilities and versatility, making it a valuable addition to my collection.
