About 6 months ago, DJI invited us to review their new Mavic prototype and provide honest feedback. As drone enthusiasts, we have always loved the Mavic Pro due to its compact size, portability, and ease of use. The only thing we wished for was improved camera quality. Today, we will take you along on our first test flight of the DJI Mavic 2 Pro.
Specifications
The Mavic 2 series consists of two models: the Pro and the Zoom. Priced at $1449, the Pro boasts a superior camera sensor, while the Zoom, priced at $1249, offers optical zoom capabilities ranging from 24mm to 48mm. In this review, we will focus on the Pro model, which delivers exceptional image quality.
In terms of size, there is little noticeable difference between the Mavic 1 and the Mavic 2. The Mavic 2 is slightly taller and longer, weighing around 2 pounds compared to the Mavic 1’s weight of about 1.6 pounds.
Camera Quality
The Mavic Pro 2 features a camera that has been jointly designed with Hasselblad, and the sensor size has nearly doubled to one inch. It captures stunning 20-megapixel photos, a significant upgrade from the previous Mavic Pro’s 12-megapixel capability. The drone can shoot 4K Ultra HD footage at 24 frames per second, and it now supports 120 frames per second at 1080P, whereas the Mavic 1 only supported 96 frames per second at that resolution. The video bitrate has been boosted from 60 to 100 megabits per second, resulting in higher quality footage that retains its integrity during color correction and grading. By selecting a point of interest, the drone automatically flies around it while capturing photos at pre-set intervals. Users can control the length of the hyperlapse, the shooting interval time, and the direction of the drone’s flight. This mode simplifies the creation of impressive time-lapse videos without extensive post-production work. It is recommended to have sufficient battery life and card space for capturing hyperlapses.

The Mavic 2 Pro seamlessly combines the superior camera technology of the Phantom 4 Pro V2 with the foldable and compact design of the Mavic series. For those seeking an excellent camera without the bulk of larger drones, the Mavic 2 Pro is the ultimate choice.
