X III and it really forced me to develop to photographer’s eye and a much wider viewpoint now I shoot almost entirely on the Ricoh gr3X, which has a 40 mil equivalent lens and it’s a world of a difference to the way that I was shooting before I need to get really close to people I need to work on intersections and layers and juxtaposition in compositions to make the images work and it’s been really tricky but I feel like I’m hitting a wall again in how I’m seeing the world and how I’m using this camera because I’ve learned its tricks and I feel like I need to go out and develop and learn some additional trick the thing you notice when you’re following one of the world’s most unpredictable subjects is that the camera itself although it feels and works really differently than the other cameras that I’ve been using says have all digital camera works in many of the ways that are the same and I’m not sure if I’ve chosen all the different ways that this camera can work yet I think there’s more that I can do such as fully understanding its high ISO capabilities and how far I can push the shadows and whether I can underexpose in a certain way to protect the highlights or perhaps to give a certain kind of mood and whether I’ve explored all of the nuances of the gr3Xs lens and all of its focal lengths and how I can use them to tell those little stories that I’m talking about I’m also trying to navigate its speed and how I can work with that to make sure that I’m exploiting it but not becoming the slave to it because I think sometimes when you start working with a camera that’s got a wider lens on it it’s like the camera itself is kind of pushing you around you’ve these ideas but it’s not letting us Get all the way there and suddenly your work is changing sometimes we need to recalibrate and get more control so that’s where I am right now I really hope this was helpful for you to hear if you’re having your own struggles with your street Photography no matter what they are I’d love to hear what they are and what you’re doing to work on them and maybe we can have a conversation in the comments section about what it is that you’re doing I think sometimes it’s good to hear that we’re not alone in our struggles as Street photographers no matter what they are and again thank you so much to Squarespace for sponsoring this video if you’ve got a website to build then definitely give them a try I’m really impressed with what I’ve seen so far and they’re offering a 10% discount if you use my code Guy #Squarespace.
