Canon’s Anticipated Announcement

On Tuesday, Canon rumor said we’ve been told that Canon will announce at least three new lenses ahead of CP+ photo and imaging trade show in Yokohama, Japan which takes place between February the 22nd and February the 25th. At first, I wasn’t going to cover this news story. It was essentially a repeat of a previous Canon rumor story back in November of 2023 indicating that we would get four prime lenses all of them f1.4 all of them image stabilized and all of them with a USM motor. The only difference being that the 14 mm wasn’t Image stabilized but we had a 24 28 and 35 mm all f1.4 and that Canon RF 35mm f1.4 disappointed a lot of people that were expecting an f1.2.

Forecast of Upcoming Lenses

With Just 4 weeks until an anticipated announcement on the heels of CP plus where we get several new lenses. At least three new lenses according to Canon rumors. I thought I could provide value by doing my own forecast of what lenses we can expect in terms of prime zooms, super telephotos and maybe even a few tilt shift lenses. Canon rumors has actually made that a little bit easy for us in an update put out on December the 19th Canon rumor said we have finally confirmed that the Canon RF 35mm is an f1.2 L Series USM and is indeed coming out in the first half of 2024. There have been some false positives over the years but we’re as sure about this as we are about any and while the 35mm f1.2 L Series USM is the most demanded Prime well since Canon came out with the RF mount with the r system there’s no guarantees but it’s on our short list.

Canon’s Short List

Let’s prioritize our short list. It’s no secret that Canon will be announcing The EOS R1 around the same time as these lens announcements are supposed to take place. As such, we expect some high-end lenses. Maybe the 200 to 500 mm F4 or the 500 mm prime or even the 70 to 200 mm. But the RF 35mm f1.2 it’s a solid candidate but there’s a good chance that Canon could hold off and announce this alongside the Canon EOS R5 Mark II announcement.
