Are you ready for a big upgrade to your camera gear in 2024? Look no further than the highly anticipated Canon EOS R7 Mark II. As technology continues to advance at a rapid pace, photographers and videographers are eager to see what improvements and new features will be included in the next iteration of the popular Canon EOS R series. With the success of the original Canon EOS R7, expectations are high for the Mark II version. From enhanced performance to upgraded features, the Canon EOS R7 Mark II is sure to make waves in the photography community. Let’s take a closer look at what we can expect from this big refresh in 2024.

Canon EOS R7 Mark II – Big Refresh in 2024?

If you’re tired of hearing about the Canon EOS R1 and the EOS R5 Mark II then you’re going to like this story. According to Canon rumors, Canon might be releasing a new APS-C camera in 2024. A solid source has let us know that there have been hints about a follow-up of 2022 Canon EOS R7, which is a fine camera, but in our opinion, the follow-up should go slightly upmarket. We think the stacked sensor feature at Canon should definitely have an APS-C entry, and that’s all we know for the specifications of this new APS-C camera.

Speculation on Specifications

Now, it isn’t 100% known that it’s an R7 Mark II, but being released a couple of years ago, there’s a lot of people that would like to see some improvements. First of all, let’s take a look at the specifications of the Mark 1. The first thing that Canon rumors talked about is a stacked sensor. The Mark 1 has a 32.5-megapixel APS-C sensor. Increasing that to a stacked sensor would solve some of the critics of the Mark 1 and one of those being dynamic range but also helping with speed and performance as well, reducing any sort of rolling shutter, that would be really beneficial and helpful to this camera.

Improvements to Consider

The price point of this camera being Canon’s flagship APS-C camera would benefit from this. It would help in low light situations and if you’re shooting wildlife at noon, you’re going to get a great shot, but if you’re shooting in dawn or dusk, well, that’s where a stacked sensor really comes in. That’s all we know about this camera. We don’t know an awful lot about it. In fact, there’s no guarantee that it is an R7 Mark I. We are getting an APS-C sensor, and they got hints that it might be the R7 Mark I, and this certainly makes an awful lot of sense. It was released back in the middle of 2022, and it’s a very good follow-up to The 70 Mark I, but there are some, I wouldn’t say issues, there are some things that Canon could definitely do to improve upon it.

Possible Upgrades

Taking a look at the back of the camera the Mark 1, that rear control wheel definitely needs to be updated. It feels cheap and feels like it would be something on the Canon EOS R100, not the R7. Let’s go ahead and give them the same rear control wheel found in the R6 Mark I and the R5. It’s only going to cost them an extra 10 cents anyway, but obviously that rear control wheel isn’t the only thing we’d like to see improved.

Predicting the New Release

Taking a look at the specifications, we can see that the Mark 1 has a pretty good resolution with a 32.5-megapixel APS-C sensor. However, putting in a stacked sensor as Canon rumors suggest would make an awful lot of sense to this camera. Most people buying this camera are shooting wildlife. They’re shooting outdoors, and if you’re shooting birds in the middle of the day, you’re going to get plenty of light coming into that camera. You’re not going to have to worry about anything and the rolling shutter is pretty limited.

Final Thoughts

With a stacked sensor that will help with rolling shutter in electronic mode, maybe pick up that mechanical speed. But where they could definitely improve on the speed is well, the buffer, the internal buffer. So that way we could shoot for longer and that the buffer could clear quicker. And that’s really important. Not many of us are going to be holding down that shutter button for five, 10, 15, or 20 seconds, but there are times where we want to get that shot and something’s fast moving we will hold it down spray and prey for maybe a second or two, or we’ll pulse it for half a second, wait, pulse it again and you want to have a buffer that’s going to clear really quickly. So let’s increase the speed and the capacity of the buffer and that’s going to help in terms of frame rates.
