ARE THEY BASICALLY THE SAME?! Sony FX3 vs A7s iii Breakdown [and why I’m buying an FX3]

People are confused. They’re upset. They don’t know what to think. They don’t know what to do. The FX3 is almost the same camera as the A7Siii, right? Well, yes and no. What is up, people? Dunna here. And today we’re gonna be taking a look at these Sony FX3, some of the things that are different between that and the A7Siii. I was one of the fortunate ones who got an A7Siii early on, and I’ve been using it for a while now, But I recently got my hands on an FX3 and have been absolutely loving it. And I’m actually going to be buying one really soon here. So in this article, I’m gonna talk about why.

Section 1: Similar Features of A7Siii and FX3

First of all, we’ve got the flip screen which is a game changer for me to be able to see myself without having to bring an extra monitor or without having to have some kind of a mirror contraption. Both cameras offer 10-bit video which makes it easy to use S-Log3 comfortably. They also have 4k 60 and 4k 120 capabilities and amazing low-light performance. Separate photo and video settings and a new menu system are also features shared by both.

Section 2: New Features on the FX3

Neutral Features

The FX3 has more video-centric labels and settings, and a different color scheme. The fan system and location of the joystick button are also different from the A7Siii. The grip on the FX3 is slightly different as well.

Features I Love

The FX3 has a compact design which makes it easier to handle. The addition of XLR inputs is a major plus point for professional audio. The dedicated record button is convenient and the physical ND filter wheel is a great feature for controlling exposure on the fly. The overall layout and button placement on the FX3 is more intuitive for video shooting.

After comparing the Sony FX3 and A7Siii, it’s clear that while they share many similarities, the FX3 offers some unique features that make it a compelling choice for video creators. The compact design, XLR inputs, dedicated record button, ND filter wheel, and improved button layout are all reasons why I’m choosing to purchase an FX3 over the A7Siii. Ultimately, the decision between the two cameras will depend on your specific needs and shooting style. But for me, the FX3 is the clear winner.

  1. Are the Sony FX3 and A7s iii basically the same?

No, they are not the same. While both cameras share some similarities, such as their 4K video capabilities and low light performance, the FX3 is designed specifically for videographers with its cinema camera features and professional audio inputs, making it a better choice for filmmakers.

  2. What are the main differences between the Sony FX3 and A7s iii?

The Sony FX3 has a more robust build quality, built-in fan for cooling during long recording sessions, professional XLR inputs for audio, and a top handle for easier handling. The A7s iii, on the other hand, is more compact and lighter, making it a better choice for run-and-gun shooting.

  3. Why are you choosing to buy the FX3 over the A7s iii?

I am choosing to buy the FX3 because of its cinema camera features, professional audio inputs, and built-in fan for cooling. These features are essential for my filmmaking needs and will help me create high-quality videos.
