My name is Victor and in today’s video, we are going to review three of the lenses from the Jupiter C lens set. I have had the 50mm for over 6 months and recently acquired the 24mm and 75mm as well. Sirui is also releasing two new lenses, the 75mm and the 100mm. The original three lenses in the set were the 24mm, 35mm, and 50mm, all at T2. These macro lenses can be used for professional work, including beauty commercials, product videos, and corporate projects, making them a budget-friendly option in the realm of full-frame Cine lenses. In this review, we will cover testing and provide examples to give you a comprehensive understanding of the performance, strengths, and weaknesses of these lenses.
These lenses offer a sharp and clinical look, with neutral rendering that allows for flexible post-processing. The highlight roll-offs, particularly in the 50mm lens, are aesthetically pleasing and render skin tones beautifully. The color consistency varies across the three lenses, with the 24mm producing the most pleasing skin tones, followed by the 75mm and the 50mm. While the 24mm and 50mm exhibit subtle color shifts, these lenses perform well outdoors, delivering good color rendition.
These lenses offer great macro capabilities considering their budget-friendly nature. The 24mm has a closer-than-usual minimum focus distance while the 50mm excels in macro capabilities. However, the 75mm exhibits issues with minimum focus distance, causing excessive flaring. The lack of macro magnification markers on the first three lenses (24mm, 35mm, 50mm) adds complexity to macro shooting. Despite these issues, the lenses perform admirably in the macro range, with minimal focus breathing.
The 24mm lens exhibits minimal chromatic aberration, while the 50mm lens shows some at T2. However, for macro shooting, stopping down the aperture to T8 or T22 resolves this issue. The chromatic aberration of the 75mm lens was not tested, but initial macro shots did not reveal any significant aberrations.
These cine lenses boast a heavy, full-metal construction, typical for Cine lenses. The focus gear on the 50mm lens is smooth, particularly towards the macro end, but consistency across the focus gears varies. The iris gears on all three lenses work well, and the set comes with a free carrying case, which proved effective in protecting the lenses during transit.
