1-inch Sensor in your Pocket: DJI Osmo Pocket 3

Hey everyone, today we’re going to be checking out the new Osmo Pocket 3 from DJI. This tiny little camera attached to a gimbal is capable of filming in up to 4K 120 FPS. We’re going to be testing it out today for both photo and video.

Testing the Gimbal

We’ll start off by testing out the gimbal by doing some vlogging shots. The Osmo Pocket 3 has a mechanical 3 AIS gimbal attached to the camera, which ensures stable footage. Even when walking on uneven ground or at different angles, the footage remains stable. The gimbal also does a great job of keeping the horizon line straight.

Face Tracking and Focus

For vlogging shots and shots of people, we can use face autodetect to track the subject’s face. The Osmo Pocket 3 does a really great job at keeping the subject in the center of the frame, even when there are distractions and movement happening. It also maintains focus on moving subjects, although it may momentarily lose focus in fast movements. Dynamic framing allows us to select where we want the subject to be framed when they’re being tracked.

Color Profiles and Image Quality

The Osmo Pocket 3 uses a 1-inch sensor with 10-bit color depth, producing balanced tones with enough contrast to make the footage look nice and punchy. The colors look vibrant without being overly colorful, and the camera handles various lighting situations well. The HLG and DLo color profiles are also easy to work with to achieve the desired look.

Battery Life and Additional Features

The gimbal camera can be charged to 80% in just 16 minutes and can film up to 120 minutes of 4K 60 FPS. The external handle provides extra battery life and reach. The Osmo Pocket 3 also features a 2-inch rotatable screen that is clear and easy to see even in brighter sunlight. It is lightweight and convenient for travel.

Photo Mode and Filters

The Osmo Pocket 3 also has a photo mode with the option to shoot in RAW+JPEG and continuous focusing. The 1-inch sensor ensures good image quality, although the photos are smaller in size compared to dedicated cameras. There are also two new magnetic filters available: a black prise filter for a soft and dreamy effect, and a wide-angle filter that does not compromise image quality.

4K 120 FPS

The Osmo Pocket 3 can also film in 4K 120 FPS, producing sharp footage with good colors. The quality is similar to 4K 60 FPS, and slow-motion shots look impressive.

In conclusion, the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 offers impressive features in a compact form factor. With its 1-inch sensor, gimbal stabilization, and various shooting modes, it is a powerful tool for both photo and video enthusiasts.
